Version 1.0 — DRAFT
Northwest River Restoration ("NWRR") offers a free directory of Pacific Northwest fishing guides. Listing on the NWRR Endorsed Guide directory is voluntary, free, and conditional on agreement with this Code of Conduct.
By accepting NWRR's free directory listing, the guide ("I" / "the Guide") commits to the following:
-
1. Wild-fish handling.
I release wild (unclipped) salmon and steelhead per current Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) regulations and best-practice handling — minimal air time, wet hands or rubberized net, supported release. I do not encourage clients to "press the rules" on wild fish.
-
2. No opposition to active recovery; active support encouraged.
I do not publicly oppose broodstock programs, hatchery science aligned with wild-fish genetics, or restoration of access to historical spawning habitat. I do not amplify the framing that "removing all hatcheries" is a viable recovery path. I am encouraged — but not required — to publicly support active recovery where my voice carries weight in the angling community.
-
3. Direct-booking integrity.
When NWRR refers an angler to me, the booking goes through my direct channel (website, phone, or email) — I keep 100% of the trip price. I do not reroute NWRR-referred bookings through online-marketplace commission flows.
-
4. Honest representation.
My listing on NWRR is accurate (regions, species, prices, license status). I update NWRR within 30 days of any material change.
-
5. No public misalignment with NWRR's mission.
If I publicly contradict NWRR's mission — for example, campaigning to shut down all hatcheries, or advocating sea-lion-protection-at-all-costs regardless of run-sustainability numbers — NWRR may remove my listing.
Note on predation: NWRR's position is conditional. When planted and wild output is insufficient to sustain a run, predation pressure becomes a numbers problem worth managing. Guides are not required to hold this exact position, but actively shilling against any pinniped management risks delisting.
-
6. Annual recertification.
I re-confirm this Code each calendar year. NWRR may delist for non-recertification.
Violations result in delisting. NWRR's listing is an endorsement of Code-aligned practice, not a guarantee of trip quality, fish caught, or any commercial outcome — anglers book at their own discretion.
How a guide signs: by checking the agreement box on NWRR's application form and submitting. Signature is electronic and dated.
